The way we dress affects the way we think, the way we feel, the way we act, and the way others react to us. Judith Rasband
First Impressions Matter
Did you know that most people judge you before you even start talking? It may be a disheartening fact, but it’s a true one – most people’s opinion of you is made up in the first minute of meeting you. In fact, it’s been proven that:
55% of first impressions are based on how you present yourself
35% is based on your vocal cues (the way you speak and the tone of your voice)
As little as 7% is based on what you actually say
Within the first 30 seconds of meeting you for the first time, they have already made at least a dozen assumptions about you, based solely on what they see. Can you believe that? Within just seconds, they’ve made assumptions about your personality, your confidence, your background, your level of intelligence, your age, how successful you are, your sense of humour, and how honest you are – all just from how you look!
What Do You Think Other People Think of You?
So, how do you think people perceive you when they meet you for the first time? Frumpy? Boring? Dull? Lifeless? Much older than you are? Trying to dress too “young”? Stiff? Ugly? Fat? (Sadly this is a word I hear all too often…)
I hear all these negative connotations from people I speak to all the time; but the thing is, what we wear is a reflection of how we are feeling at the time. It’s a reflection of the way we’re thinking. If you’re uncomfortable about some extra weight you don’t want to be carrying, you may wear clothes that are baggy and actually make you look bigger (thus proving your point to yourself).
How Do You Want to See Yourself?
When you look in the mirror how do you want to feel about yourself? Attractive? Full of life? Loveable? Happy? Confident? Successful? Intelligent? Fun? Employable? Datable?
How you want to see yourself may change from day-to-day or even from day to night, but the way to embody these feelings is to dress with intention.
The Power of Intention
I live my life with intention; through my actions, words, thoughts, and attitude… The way I live my life is reflected in my intentional behaviour, but let’s pause for a moment – what is intention?
Intention is more than the desire to do or be something, it’s a way to move through your life with purpose. Intention is a transformational energy – living each day with intent is a powerful way to create a life of abundance and inner-peace. Intention is just as powerful when it is applied to the way you choose to dress.
When you choose to dress with intention, you choose to dress yourself with an invisible force that will attract positivity to you.
Why You Should Dress with Intention
Do you feel like your wardrobe is a reflection of the person you want to be and the life you want to have? Do you think new people you meet have the right first impression of you?
I guarantee you that dressing with intention will increase your confidence, it will start to shift the negative and false beliefs you hold about yourself, and best of all it will help you feel comfortable in your own skin – it doesn’t matter what size you are!
We all know beauty starts from within, and we can recognise it in others, but we forget that what we see on the outside is a reflection of how we feel on the inside. When you feel good in your own skin, your confidence rises, you are open to trying new things, and you start to look after yourself better. Suddenly you want to do your nails, pluck your eyebrows, or eat a bowl of fruit instead of chocolate. You are happier and comfortable in your relationship with yourself and others, both personally and professionally.
Remember: when you feel good and look good, you systematically raise your vibration. What does that do? It makes you a powerful magnet for all the things you want.
Dressing with intention is not complicated; it simply requires you to be true to who you are and who you want to be, to know how you want to feel and the message you want to communicate to the world.
Imagine How You Would Feel If…
Imagine how you would feel if when you got dressed you felt attractive and ready to take on the world, imagine if you had your own signature style. What would it be like to have a wardrobe full of pieces that aren’t only stylish, but also match your personality, suit your lifestyle, flatter your shape, and highlight your best assets? This should always be your goal – if all the pieces in your wardrobe hit these points, you’ll have no trouble dressing in a way that makes you feel good. Now, imagine yourself experimenting with the colours you wear and make striking impressions wherever you go – playing with the colour’s energy.
Because colour is energy, each colour has positive and negative psychological characteristics, hence why it’s so important you select the colours that harmonise with your skin tone.
